About Yvonne
Born and educated in Holland. I have lived most of my adult life near the water or coast in Australia.
Coming from such a small country as Holland, it is the size and the intensity of colours in Australia that has held me enthralled.
Living in the Northern Territory for three years gave me the chance to experience the "centre". The space, curved horizon and the play of light held a never-ending fascination for me.
I like to walk through the landscape and experience the mood. While there, I will do a lot of sketching, but often it will be weeks before a painting suggests itself, with the colours and the style to create the mood, the space and the peace.
I reflected how the present is connected to the past by a tenuous, often invisible, thread. A custom is continued, reifnorced, as cultures are joined across the chasms of time.
"Beyond Stonehenge", CJ Howkins, 1973
